When summer comes around, I always remember the times my father took us to the beach during my elementary school summer vacations. We lived far from the sea, and my parents ran a store, so our beach trips were limited to just a few days each summer. For me, as a child, these beach outings with my family were incredibly exciting and refreshing.
The day before our trip, we would prepare for the beach by packing swimsuits and inflatable rings. My mother and sisters would wake up early in the morning to make bento lunches and get everything ready for our departure. It took quite some time to wake up my father, who liked to sleep in, and to get the whole family into the car. I remember the hurried rush to finally set off on our adventure.
Just watching the scenery change outside the car window was enjoyable. The buildings of the town gradually disappeared, and before we knew it, we were driving through lush, green mountain roads. It felt like we were leaving our everyday lives behind and venturing into an entirely new world.

On the way to the beach, we would stop by a roadside flouts (watermelon) stand to buy a watermelon for a watermelon-splitting game. Upon arriving at the beach, we rented a beach house and spent our time leisurely by the sea. Swimming, fishing, searching for crabs in the rocky areas, and playing the watermelon-splitting game—all these activities made our time at the beach unforgettable.
Driving to the beach meant leaving the busy city and heading towards a peaceful countryside. It was a journey from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The little trips to the beach always filled me with excitement. These cherished memories come to mind every summer, reminding me of those joyful days.
