Beaches around Haleiwa Town, North Shore of Oahu

The town of Haleiwa, located on the North Shore of Oahu, was originally a supply town during the plantation era in the 1900s. Nowadays, it is known as the surf city of the North Shore and is focused on surfing. When the waves are up, traffic can be slow as everyone is eager to witness the action at Sunset Beach. Conversely, if the ocean is calm, the town is relatively quiet.

Although there are occasional north swells that triple into the bay, there is generally little wave action. For beginner board riders, the North Shore offers some tamer breaks, including Puaena Point which is just north of Haleiwa Beach Park. Visitors can also enjoy kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding in the area, with surf shops located near the Rainbow Bridge offering rental equipment. Surfing at Puaena Point

Even if you’re not normally a fan of kayaking, it’s worth giving it a try here. For a very reasonable fee of just $30 per hour, you can explore the nearby river and enjoy sights like schools of fish, lush vegetation, and even a few turtles. Our whole family had a blast.

But that’s not all – we also took a surf lesson and it was incredible! Our knowledgeable instructor had us standing up and surfing on our very first wave. He made sure we got the full two hours of instruction and we were wiped out by the end, but it was totally worth it. Surf n Sea is a great place for an unforgettable water sports experience.
